My style

My style and why I choose to use film to capture your important moments.

I consider myself a documentarian (is there such a word?). I do not do the cheesy, posed, "okay big smile now", type of photographs. If that's what you like, then more power to you but I am probably not the right photographer for you.

My mission is to capture moments and vignettes in your life that show who you are - that tell your story and leave a legacy. To produce images that are more than simply a likeness...an image that effectively tells a powerful, authentic story of a moment - it may be your wedding or it may not be a big moment but is a moment nevertheless - in your history. That is what I bring to your wedding, portrait-session, or event.

I have a studio with quality lights and backdrops where I sometimes take formal wedding photographs but much prefer to shoot on location, as you're far more interesting in your natural habitat and my goal is to produce an image that is important and means something to you. A portrait could be photographed at your home, your workplace, the pub you stop in on your way home every night, or even a cornfield. Anywhere that has some meaning in your life and reflects who you are.

The approach I take at wedding photography is similar. Other than the regulation group shots, I approach your day in exactly the same manner I would, were I covering it for a news magazine. I tell the story by capturing decisive moments throughout your wedding.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS!

I photograph weddings in a combination of colour and black and white, using real film and digital capture and can supply special effects such as sepia-toning. Why do I combine film and digital image-capture? It's a case of using the right tool for each specific image and, despite what many may say, film is far from dead! Film lends itself to fine art works, in some cases it offers more tones and subtleties, is incredibly beautiful and is far more archival than digital imagery. My approach is considered and deliberate, as a photojournalist I wait for the "decisive moment" and do not need to crank off hundreds of pictures in the hope there'll be "some good ones!" If you are looking for a photographer who will churn out hundreds of sterile images then I am not the right person for you.

When you hire me to photograph your wedding or to shoot your portrait, your story will be told - BEAUTIFULLY! I guarantee it!
